  1. 1 - authentic activities include things that children will encounter not only in the classroom but also in real life. If the student recognizes this, it will prevent them from holding on to the belief that schoolwork has to application beyond acquiring grades. Therefore they will be able to apply their knowledge beyond the school walls and bring their experiences outside into the classroom to build clearer and more thorough pictures of concepts.

2- Especially for children struggling with math in the younger grades, multiplication and addition get substituted for each other quite frequently. Students may think they are the same and not notice when they mix up the two. In part this may be due to the similarity in symbols used for the problems. I think it would be helpful to use visual representations of things in addition to the mathematical phrases, using objects the students might encounter every day, so that they gain a deeper understanding of the difference between the two types of problems.

  2. 1) Authentic activities help in promoting effective knowledge construction by getting the students to work in a hands-on way. Some authentic activities can be highly motivating which helps students to be more engaged and therefore more likely to obtain the information that is being learned.

    2) One common misconception that I see in the preschool classroom is student's idea of counting. Many times students will count incorrectly or have the wrong idea of which item has 'more or less' of something. A lot of these mistakes have to do with the child not quite understanding how numbers work (they may not have memorized the correct counting sequence) and usually will fix itself over time with a lot of practice and gentle corrections.

    1. 1. Authentic activities make it real for the students. If the students experienes it in a real world situation the student will likely construct a more useful knowledge base intergrated with previous knowledge.
