Bloom's Taxonomy - Chapter 7

(Applying) Can you apply the concept of conceptual change to a real-life situation
                      you have experienced?

(Creating) What strategies would you use to create a community of learners in your

                      classroom?

  1. (Applying) A real-life situation I have experienced in regard to the idea of conceptual change is the idea in math class that answers are not usually whole numbers. For example, students have often been trained to think that their answers should be things like 2, 4, or 10. However, often in upper level math classes that will come upon a decimal/fraction/integer answers, erase their work and assume their calculations were off. I agree that his question is in the "apply" phase of Bloom's taxonomy.

(Creating) - Strategies I use to create a community of learners in my classroom are icebreaking activities such as "musical homework", fishbowl conferences, and agree/disagree. In addition my students work in teams. When the teams are first assigned at the beginning of each unit - they will share random facts or characteristics about themselves - such as "what is your favorite movie". While I could see why creating could be used to classify this question, I would argue that the question is more of a level 1 - remember question as it could simply be answered by a list. Something such as "Design a strategy you will use to build a community of learners within your classroom" took take this question to a higher level.

  2. I use the concept of conceptual changes a lot in the complex French grammar concepts. I divided the concept into several shanks. First, I teach the basic idea, then I move the next level, which is usually more complex, and finally I cover the most challenging part and the irregularities or exceptions to the general rule.
For example, when I teach present tense in French I, I cover many useful regular verbs and we use them for a whole semester; insisting that this is how we conjugate all the verbs falling under that specific category. Later on, around the second semester after mastery of regular verbs has been reached, I present the irregular verbs. I insist on the fact that this change is the result of the students' mastery and higher level; and it is time to grasp new knowledge, change the old one, and go deeper in the understanding of L2.

2-To create a community of leaners; I use diverse strategies and tools. Among others I may list:
    Group Projects
    Collaborative learning activities
    Peer tutoring/ evaluation
    Class proofreading
    Class/ school performing
Teaming with other classes: History, Geography, government, and theater….
