( Remmembering/understanding) According to Bronfenbrenner's Theory what is the most basic layer of a child's enviroment and what are three ways this layer can support the child's development?
( understanding/analyzing) Using piagets Theory of Cognitive Development explain the differences in how a 10 year old and a 12 year old solved this problem.
It is -1 degree farenheit at 7am. At 10 am it is 3 degree farenheit. How many degrees did the temperature change?
Ch3
Up to the last portion of the school year my 5th period classhas done well. They have achieved academically therefore I do not think there is a problem in their cognitive development. I likewise do not believe there is a problem in thier language development.Cognitive or language problemswould have shown up before now. Up to this point all students have participated in forulating the class rules and guidelines and they have all shown the self-regulation to follow the plan.
I have come to the conclusion that the three rowdy boys are attention seekers and have very few social information processing skills. It is also quite evident that a signficant number of the students have not reached the level of conventional maturity. This is apparent when looking at their disreguard for the rules they established for note passing, cell phones, and general behavior.
The lack of guilt and or shame for this behavior also indicates very little capacity to respond emotionally to their blantent disreguard for the rules. I am afraid that a social culture exist in our school that is past along from year to year that seniors have a right to regress to a pre-adolescent-stage in thier social, moral, and emotional actions because they are about to graduate.
1. Family is the most basic layer, and it supports the child's development by providing good nutrition, helping with homework assignments, and working cooperatively with teachers to address learning and behavior problems. (This question could also be considered a comprehension question in the form of "explain". I liked that you went beyond the one word answer and asked us to provide examples of how this layer supports.)
ReplyDelete2. A ten year old has obtained logical reasoning in a concrete fashion, but a twelve year old has obtained it in the abstract fashion as well, and negative numbers are abstract - which is concrete operations v. formal operations. (This question is wonderful because it asks us to use Piaget's theory to give reasoning for a situation. This question could also be considered a knowledge question in the form of "identify".)
For your case study, I completely agree that there is that sense of cultural norm and expectation for seniors to become less mature and demonstrate a lack of social, emotional and moral development.
Family is the most basic layer of Bronfenbenner's Theory of Environmental Influence on Development. Three ways that family can influence development are providing good nutrition, helping with homework assignments, and working cooperatively with teachers to address learning and behavior problems.
ReplyDeletePiaget's Theory of Cognitive Development provides that cognitive development proceeds through four distinct stages. A ten year old is typically in the Concrete Operations stage and a twelve year old could have entered the Formal Operations stage. The twelve year old can think about concepts that have little or no basis in concrete reality. The twelve year old can comprehend how the temperature can be below zero, whereas the ten year old can not.
Seniors do typically get antsy toward the end of the year but teachers can definitely implement strategies to overcome that maturity decline.
