Chapters 2 & 3

Chapter 2:
Hypothesize the influence in each environmental layer (family, neighborhood & community, and state/province & country) in regards to reading comprehension for younger grades. (Synthesis)

Briefly describe Piaget’s Four Stages of Cognitive Development. (Knowledge)

Chapter 3:

Regarding my case study, cognitive development is going to influence Willard’s behavior in the classroom. When Willard begins to distract himself or seeks to escape the classroom during instruction, his cognitive ability could be affecting his confidence in a subject area and how much he wants to participate. There is also a social dimension of Willard’s behavior because he does not understand personal space, appropriateness of staying in his seat/in the classroom during instruction, and the students are beginning to make fun of him. I do not believe there is much of a language dimension to Willard’s behavior, except that he does not understand the responses he is getting from me as his teacher, or from his classmates (which I believe is more of a social influence than a language influence).
